 The crisis of Covid-19 pandemic has had many implications for both men and women. UN reports show that in 17 countries, both genders have been performing more duties in the household during the lockdown. However, women and girls continue to spend three times as many hours in unpaid domestic work and care as men and boys. Moreover, women represent 70% of health and social workers who are on the frontlines of fighting the coronavirus. A more alarming situation is the 30% increased risk of domestic violence against women and girls during the lockdown.

Similarly, on a global scale, in education, 90% of students were out of school and at least 500 million students have not had access to remote learning. An increasing lack of access to education will negatively affect the learning of skills necessary for opportunities in the job market. This situation does not only impinge on the educational rights of individuals with different ages and genders; but more importantly on the already most disadvantaged groups: women/ girls, poor households, and persons with disabilities.

 The present conference aims to examine the devastating impacts of Covid-19 pandemic on gender equality and quality education, two sustainable goals identified by the UN, and the kind of responses which were triggered as forms of activism, self-expression, and creation of new meanings. Furthermore, it explores the prospects which may be unlocked for future professionals through learning different skills and values which foster equal opportunities for both genders in leadership and in the labour market, eventually and hopefully resulting in an equitable, unbiased, and fair labour culture for all.

It is crucial to analyse and debate how educational theories and practices affect the politics of gender in the current troubling times. How do lockdowns affect women, girls, and the family as a whole? How does online education collide with male and female students’ , parents’ , and teachers’ socio-economic and psychological realities? What kind of initiatives and best practices have the media and civil society developed in relation to gender and education being interwoven with race, ethnicity, class, disability, and religion? And how can education nurture and induce equitable leadership positions, income opportunities, promotions, and labour access for women and men?

Contributions to this conference should consider the theme of gender and education from different perspectives and disciplines amid and beyond the pandemic landscape. Themes that could be explored include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Online / blended teaching and learning and quality education for all
• Government policy, educational reforms vis-à-vis gender equality 
• Education and gender-based violence 
• Media and new communication technologies as gender-transformative content 
• Gender, educational leadership, and the labour market

Submission Guidelines:

 Authors are invited to submit original and unpublished papers, which are not under review in any other conference or journal.
